Meet Your Teachers
Abby K.
Abby has been practicing yoga for nearly a decade and earned her 200-hour RYT certification in 2020 to deepen her practice and share the tools that have supported her along the way. She first turned to yoga during a challenging time, finding that the practice helped calm her anxiety and shift her focus from a busy mind into her body. What began as a way to reconnect with herself has grown into a lasting practice and a passion for creating that same space for others.
Her classes are grounded, playful, and accessible, weaving creative movement with meaningful quotes, thoughtful playlists, and plenty of room for laughter. Abby encourages students to let go of perfection, tune in, and find their own rhythm on the mat. She believes yoga can meet us wherever we are and offer a little more steadiness, connection, and joy.
Erica W.
Erica Whalen E-RYT 500, is a yoga teacher and the founder of The Yoga Common, which she began with her sister and dear friend Cynthia in 2007. She fell deeply in love with the yoga practice and its ability to heal and connect body, mind, and spirit.
Her classes are fluid, expressive, and informed by her background in dance, weaving creative movement and breath with strength, stability, and mindful alignment. Rooted in the hatha vinyasa tradition, her teaching invites students to move with both freedom and intention.
Erica holds a BFA in Ballet and Modern Dance from Texas Christian University and received her yoga certification through Laughing Lotus Yoga School. She lives in Austin with her husband, Evan, and their two children, Charlie and Lila, and their cat, Billie.
Gina T.
Gina is a soulful and charismatic yoga teacher whose journey is rooted in movement, music, and transformation. A trained figure skater, dancer, and singer, she has always understood the artistry of movement, but yoga became her sanctuary after injuries challenged her body and spirit. Through breath and movement, she found healing and rediscovered strength, turning what began as recovery into a lasting devotion.
Her classes are fluid, expressive, and infused with music, rhythm, and moments of laughter. She creates an immersive and welcoming space where students can move freely, build strength, and connect to themselves.
Gina is certified through YogaRenew with both 200- and 300-hour credentials and draws on her studies in exercise physiology at Stanford to inform her teaching.
Katie J.
Katie Johnson is a passionate yoga teacher who received her 200-hour certification through Holy Yoga in 2020. In a time when the world seemed to slow down, Katie found space to pursue a lifelong dream: sharing the gift of yoga with others. What began as intimate backyard classes has blossomed into a meaningful journey of teaching at The Yoga Common. Katie’s classes are a distinctive blend of strength, faith, and endurance—designed to renew both the spirit and the mind. Rooted in her personal journey and spiritual foundation, each session offers a unique experience that goes beyond movement. Her approach invites students into deeper connection, reflection, and transformation. It’s something you truly have to experience to believe. All are welcome.
Mindy N.
Mindy has practiced yoga on and off for 8 years, the same amount of time as being an RN! Eager to learn, she is always thriving to know more about the human body and how to care for it. Mindy is a certified 200hr YTT and is also wrapping up her 85hr training for prenatal yoga. She enjoyed ballroom dancing in school and is currently learning more as an OBGYN nurse. With these skills, she hopes to teach yoga in a way that provides a safe, fun, and foundational understanding in order to practice in a meaningful way. When she is not practicing yoga or busy advocating for her patients, she is enjoying time with her partner Peter and their poochies, Emmett and Lana.
Nathan W.
Nathan was first introduced to yoga asana as a warmup before high school theatre productions, but the philosophy and embodiment practices quickly became foundational to his everyday life. Difficult life transitions, injury, and both physical and mental illness kept luring him back to the mat for years to come. Having completed his 200-hour power yoga teacher training in 2016, Nathan has since grown his practice through such programs as a 300-hour training; a “Yoga For All” certification to guide students of all body sizes and abilities; and “Embodied Social Justice,” an exploration of how the body responds to unjust social conditions and how a disciplined embodiment practice can sustainably fuel one’s own social justice work. In class, Nathan invites students not to escape the world around them, but to orient themselves within it. He encourages curiosity and compassion, using a physical challenge as a mechanism through which to accept, embrace, and marvel at one’s own limitations and abilities alike—all while leaving room for the occasional pun and a please-don’t-take-me-too-seriously demeanor.
Paulina F.
Paulina’s yoga practice started when she was in middle school at a Barnes & Noble in the suburbs of Salt Lake City with the book Ashtanga Yoga by Juliet Pegrum. As a dancer Paulina was drawn to asana, and as someone with a non stop monkey mind Paulina NEEDED the practice of mental stillness yoga teaches. Paulina received her 200 RYT certification at Practice Yoga in Austin in 2017 and immediately began teaching kids. Since then she has taught first graders through adults: incorporating creative flows with strong alignment cues to create a practice that is fun, detail focused, and grounded. Paulina loves to mix up her yoga playlists and is particularly fond of classic rock. She is so excited to join the wonderful team at Yoga Common.
Trish O.
Trish has been teaching yoga in Austin since 2022. What began as a physical complement to other exercise quickly became an essential tool for grounding, stress relief, and transforming her relationship with her body and mind.
Her classes are inclusive, supportive, and rooted in the belief that how a pose feels matters more than how it looks. Through thoughtful engagement and alignment cues, Trish encourages self-study and empowers students of all body types, neurotypes, and states of being to develop greater connection and agency within their bodies.
Trish completed her 200-hour training in Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga and is also certified in Yin and Prenatal Yoga. Outside the studio, she enjoys live music, reading, hiking, crafting, and running her vegan, gluten-free bakery, Heart Space Bakes.
